β οΈπ‘οΈ Weather Warning π‘οΈβ οΈ
The met office has warned that temperatures may drop to as low as -8°, bringing with it snow! βοΈπ¨οΈ
We are still going to be out and about but please bare with us as we will be taking things slow to avoid incidents and keep us and your dogs safe! βοΈ
With firework season just around the corner now is the time to grab yourself a calming kit, with everything you need to help keep your pet calm utilising natural remedies!
You can get your kit here using our discount code: https://petremedy.co.uk/ref/ODYSSEYPETS/
Of course we always recommend prevention, so we'd suggest using pet remedy products in conjunction with a qualified ethical trainer leading up to fireworks season! You can read more about noise phobia in dogs and how to choose a trainer by clicking on the link below:

Over the weekend we went to @nantwichfoodfest π₯π§
These two did incredibly well navigating through busy streets, lots of people and other dogs, all whilst remaining calm and neutral the entire time, I'm incredibly proud of them both! All our neutrality training has paid off, allowing us to enjoy more adventures together!ππ
Of course, we had to get them some fancy treats at one of the stalls. We picked up some Yak Chews & Beef Tails from @skylosfoods, they even gave us some Goat Pate to try out! π
Overall a successful trip! πΆπΎ
Just some information around dogs & humidity levels, it might not feel too hot at 22° to us, but the humidity can be just as dangerous to our dogs! πΎ
Panting is a dog's main way of cooling down, but high humidity can make it less effective! β οΈ
When dogs pant, moisture evaporates from their lungs, which helps reduce their body heat. However, on humid days, dogs inhale hot, humid air, which doesn't cool them down as well. π₯΅
When humidity levels reach over 80%, panting can become ineffective and dogs can overheat. This can lead to heat stroke, which occurs when a dog's core body temperature becomes too high! π‘

How we're keeping our 2 high energy breeds occupied whilst it's too hot for walks... πΎ
Scent work! A great way to mentally stimulate and enrich your dogs life, appropriate for all breeds of all shapes and sizes, and incredibly adaptable too! You can make it as easy or as hard as needed to suit your dogs abilities, from scattering some treats in the long grass to hiding high value snacks in more difficult places, like up trees or crevasses in walls! 𧱠π²π½
13 minutes of sniffing trimmed down to just 13 seconds! Lots of scent games and searching for the boys on their drop-in visit during the 25° heat π₯΅π‘π₯
Whilst we're not going on walks we're still able to provide plenty of enrichment as well as toilet breaks & water refills during our drop-in sessions! πΎ
Quick shout out to this lil man! π
Along side his regular walks we've been doing some work on desensitisation around the dog van, at first he refused to get in, pulled backwards away from it, showing all the signs of stress! π°
After just a few sessions before his walks, he's not only happy to get in, he's excited! All by changing his association with the van to something positive! β
οΈ
We've been doing a LOT of co-operative care recently, so I thought I'd share a little on how we do it, why we do it, and the benefits of it! π€π»πΎ
Co-operative care is essentially making sure that your pet is comfortable and co-operative when carrying out usually unpleasant tasks, such as taking pills, grooming, brushing teeth, inspecting for tics or grass seeds, that sort of thing!
The way we do this is to give your pet something fun to do whilst you carry out the mundane task, constantly assessing whether they are still comfortable with what you are doing. πͺ₯
As demonstrated by my two Spaniels, we've popped some paté paste on an enrichment mat and put it on the floor for them to go at whilst I check them over for grass seeds embedded in their coats. Maia has been doing amazing with this, she was uncertain at first as she's nervous by nature. But soon came round to the idea when there was something in it for her! π
Atlas on the other hand is different ball game all together, he's a little older so he knows what he doesn't like, and grooming is definitely one of them things! So we have to be super careful when doing anything with Atlas, ensuring that we're monitoring his body language and warning signs constantly! β οΈ As well as praising and reassuring when he's being calm and cooperative!

Your pets welfare is always our top priority, so we've invested a little into ensuring they stay cool this summer! π π
In addition to our crate system, cooling beds, individual crate fans & fresh water bowls, we've added a full air cooling system designed to pull the hot air from inside the van, keeping it cool in even on the hottest of days! π¬βοΈ
We even went a step further and had it wired to a leisure battery so it stays running even when the van is off, keeping it cool no matter what! ππΆ
Thanks to @franksvamp1 for the cracking work! ππ»
Walks aren't just "walks", they're a chance to give your dog some well needed enrichment time! π½π
Whether it's retrieving games, scent work, impulse control games, or just basic obedience like recall, we try and tailor our walks to suit your dog so they get the most out of their time with us! πΎ
To quote Monty Python, "Tis but a scratch!"
Nevertheless it highlights the importance of pet professionals having up to date first aid qualification and suitable equipment to deal with incidents! βοΈπ₯
Atlas is totally fine and just has a small scratch next to his eye, we got it cleaned up and stopped any bleeding roadside and we are monitoring it just to be safe! πΎπ
β οΈ Hot weather warning! β οΈ
With the weather reaching as high as 25° next week we're taking some precautions, any walks during temperatures of 22° or above will either be rearranged or changed to drop-ins as needed.
We do this to ensure the safety and well-being of your pups during these high heats π₯΅π₯π‘
In place of walks we will be providing plenty of mental enrichment & low energy play πΎ
It's probably no surprise that this happy, bouncy, lively springer has something called "Happy Tail Syndrome" π
As she is an un-docked Springer Spaniel she has quite a long and powerful tail, pair this with her energetic wagging and insane speed, she was bound to injure it eventually! And the other day she did... the tip of her tail split and caused quite the scene! π©Έ
She's absolutely fine, just on restricted walks until fully healed, which means lots of sniffy games and scent work where she is less at risk! π
Different dogs have different learning styles! An important thing to remember when teaching anything to your dog! πΎ
Some might learn through play, others through treats, or simply praise and affection! No matter what, there's is always a positive way to train! ππ
We've had lots of different challenges this week, with a heavy focus on bringing down arousal levels to allow us to train efficiently! πβοΈ

Specially tailored 1:1 training! Whether it's working on getting your dog to listen to you outside, getting them to come back to you, or working on some basic obidence, or even reactivity, we're here to help! πΎ
Using reward based training not only is an effective means of training, but it helps build an amazing relationship between you and your dog! πΆ
One of our Spaniels has come into season so she's on restricted duties until further notice! Which means plenty of enrichment at unsociable hours π
Considering we've not done much "proper" scentwork with her she's nailed the vehicle searches we've been doing this evening ππ» might have made it a bit too easy!
Do you dread taking your dog out for a walk because they pull you toward every smell, discarded wrapper or bit of scap food? π
Are they pulling your arm out your socket as you walk (or get dragged) down the street? πͺπ»
Do they bark and lunge at every passing dog, cyclist, car or squirrel that goes past? πΏ
We're here to help with our stress free and simple 1:1 training! Together we'll formulate a plan to get you the dog you've always dreamed of! ππ»πΎ

We would love to hear from you and your pups, so get in touch and we'll do our best to help! π
New year means new things happening!
Starting from January 1st, 2024, we've got some exciting changes coming to our services. To better serve our clients, we'll no longer be offering pack/group walks. We've made this decision because there hasn't been much demand for these types of walks, and we want to focus on the wellbeing of our reactive, nervous, and anxious dogs that we currently take care of.
For those of you who are currently on our pack walks, don't worry! You can either switch to our solo walks or choose to participate in our training options. The choice is yours!
We'll also be putting more emphasis on the training side of our business. We want to build up our knowledge so we can help those of you who are struggling with your pups.
Moving forward, we're excited to offer the following services:
πΎ 1:1 Training Walks
πΎ 1:1 Training Sessions
πΎ 1:1 Training Packages
πΎ Solo Walks
πΎ Pet Sitting
πΎ Drop-Ins
We believe these changes will allow us to meet the unique needs of each client and provide the best care possible. Thank you for your ongoing support!
After using these 2m biothane training leads for the past month we can comfortably recommend them! ππ»
πΎ Waterproof
πΎ Wipe clean
πΎ Durable & Tough

They have been a great addition to our training toolkit and we are happy to be offering them to our clients π
We also have some 10m long lines available, ideal for recall, exploring, scentwork etc ππ¦Ί

I often tell my clients "our house is like Fort Knox" when creating training plans for their pups. That's because prevention is better that reaction! π°
Don't want your dog stealing from the kitchen counters whilst you cook? Use a gate! Don't want your pup running up and down the stairs? Use a gate! Don't want your dog going certain places in the house, you guessed it, use a gate! π§±
Using gates as a management tool is amazing when done correctly. You can create safe spaces for your pup to explore without needing to worry they'll get ahold of something they shouldn't, or be anywhere that isn't dog proof! βοΈ
They can also help with threshold training, impulsively, separation anxiety, counter surfing, the list is endless! π
Morning all! Just a quick weather warning, if it does drop below -5° we will be changing some walks to drop-ins to keep your pups safe! πΎ
This will be assessed on a case by case basis as all dogs are different π
Please take care when walking your dogs in these freezing temperatures, come prepared with coats and boots for their paws and shorten walks if necessary, and avoid bodies of water as these will be too cold and could cause your pup to go into shock if they suddenly jump in! π¦
